New York Giants: Ben McAdoo’s Blueprint

Say what you want about Ben McAdoo, but I believe he is one of the greatest up and coming coaches in football. The New York Giants love to hand-pick their heirs to the organization’s thrown. That’s exactly what they intend to do with McAdoo. Depending on his success this season, he could very well be the next head coach of the Giants. Let’s take a look at what his plans for the offense might be this year.

One thing I’m sure McAdoo is looking to do is to limit Eli Manning’s passing. Now when I say limit, I don’t mean it’s because Manning can sometimes be shaky. He will limit Manning because a balanced offense always is more threatening than a one-dimensional offense. Manning seems to play a lot better when all the pressure isn’t on him. There is a big difference in play when he has a decent run game backing him up.

In addition to limiting passing, when he does decide the Giants should pass the ball. It will most likely be short with the occasional deep pass.

It is very similar to the offense Aaron Rodgers plays in with the Green Bay Packers. Look at how well it works out for him. McAdoo is trying to replicate that in New York.

McAdoo’s final piece to the offensive puzzle is to come up with a halfway decent offensive line. While this is more of an obvious plan, it fits the puzzle perfectly. Part of the reason why the Giants’ were short passing so much last season was because their line couldn’t protect Manning long enough when going deep. If McAdoo wants any sort of passing game at all he’s going to have to pull a solution out of thin air.
