2. Evaluating His Rookie Season:
Imagine the kind of production Beckham Jr. could have put up for the Giants if a hamstring injury didn’t sideline him for the first four games of his career. Once Beckham Jr. was able to get on the field he put on quite a show. Beckham Jr. caught 91 passes in his rookie season and on 12 of those receptions he scored a touchdown. This is definitely one of the best rookie seasons we have ever seen from a football player period.
Beckham Jr. showed us that he is ahead of his years. He does things on the football field that you’d expect from 10 year veterans. He understands how to run his routes against the different coverage schemes that he faces. He comes back to the football and he catches it at its highest point. Manning can trust Beckham Jr. to go up and get the football. The value of Beckham Jr. is simply incredible.
If he played a full 16 game schedule it isn’t unrealistic to see a 120 reception season with over 1,500 yards and 16 touchdowns. He scored 12 touchdowns in 12 games, which is incredible. That’s not just incredible because it came from a rookie, it is incredible for any receiver. Beckham Jr. had games in which he was unstoppable in 2014. He had seven games last season with over 100 yards receiving. In the 5 games in which he was held under 100 yards, he had two 90 yard performances. There were four games in which he had double digit receptions. Any way you slice it 2014 was sensational for Beckham Jr.
