Last season, the New York Giants were one of the most injured teams in the NFL. They lost more than half of their free agent signings during that same year. Injuries have played a very strong role in their poor performances, but is the same fate to be met again in 2015? It seems like it so far.
Over the past week, multiple offensive linemen stayed of practice with minor aliments, Nat Berhe tore his pectoral muscle, Jason Pierre-Paul is nowhere to be found, and Prince Amukamara has a groin injury.
This has to be very scary for the Giants because some of they players they lost were at key positions. The Giants needed to get the most out of their secondary and their offensive line if they want to make any sort of playoff push. Getting multiple injuries at those positions can’t help the situation
It all comes down to having some bad luck. You can’t prevent injuries from happening. It’s just a part of the sports world. However, what the Giants can do is have a contingency plan. That’s why they signed receiver James Jones in case Victor Cruz doesn’t bounce back.
All is not lost yet because most of these injuries are minor. The Giants should be very careful with how they handle their players from now on. They can’t afford to lose anyone else. They are taking a step in the right direction by sitting both Cruz and Amukamara.
Keeping Odell Beckham and Cruz at full health is essential to the success of this team. The dynamic duo gives the Giants a chance to make the postseason for the first time in a couple of years.
