Roster Moves; Giants add Jasper Brinkley, cut Asa Jackson & Louis Nix
By Jesse Connor
Just a few days after claiming cornerback Asa Jackson and defensive tackle Louis Nix off of waivers the Giants have parted ways with the two players. Neither player was expected to play a large role with the team but it is a bit of a shock to see two players get claimed and then let go just days apart.

Nix failed his physical examination but there is no word as to why Jackson was so promptly released. This makes you wonder who didn’t do their homework here and why his physical condition was not known prior to the signing. The Giants released veteran defensive tackle Kenrick Ellis to make room for Nix. Nix’s release may leave the door open for Ellis’ return, even if only temporary.
There is no word as to why Jackson has been let go but regardless the Giants will need to bring in another cornerback to fill out the bottom of their depth chart.
To fill one of these roster spots the Giants signed linebacker Jasper Brinkley, a 6 year veteran, who was recently released by the Dallas Cowboys.
Brinkley signed a 2 year deal with the Cowboys in the offseason but Dallas was not impressed as the former Minnesota Viking and Arizona Cardinal could not make the final roster.
Brinkley has played in 79 games with 33 starts since entering the league in 2009. He has totaled 127 tackles, 5 forced fumbles, and 1 sack during his career. Brinkley plays downhill and is pretty effective against the run game but is a liability versus the pass. Last season in Minnesota he played in all 16 games and started 11 for the Vikings.
