New York Giants: No Victor Cruz, Jon Beason On SNF

The New York Giants will play the Dallas Cowboys on NBC’s Sunday Night Football without two of their biggest stars. Jon Beason and Victor Cruz have both been ruled out of tomorrow night’s contest.

Neither being ruled out is all that surprising. Beason is an injury prone player who got banged up in the preseason. Cruz is still recovering from his injury from a season ago. The opening game against the Cowboys is important but the Giants have to think about the big picture here. They cannot afford to risk further injury to Cruz and Beason isn’t ready to go.

The Giants run defense was already one of the main concerns of this team. Without Beason the run defense could be even more problematic than it was projected to be. In his absence Uani’ Unga will be making his first ever NFL start most likely. Unga will be tested in this game as the speed of the first week of the season is a whole different animal than that of the preseason.

The Giants offense will be fine without Cruz, as it was most of last season. Cruz is thought to be the piece to the puzzle that makes the Giants offense unstoppable. When he returns at full strength the Giants will have a surplus at the receiver position that cannot be rivaled in the NFL. That being said, the Giants will be fine.

Expect a big game from Odell Beckham Jr. in this one. Beckham Jr. is the only superstar on the Giants receiving core and he will have to do the heavy lifting with Cruz out of the lineup. Rueben Randle and Larry Donnell will both prove to be very complementary pieces but Beckham Jr. is the big star here.

The Giants will have to play without two of their star players. It isn’t ideal but it is something they will have to deal with.
