New York Giants: Reclaim First Place In NFC East

The New York Giants had a golden opportunity to create separation between themselves and the rest of the NFC East two weeks ago. If the Giants had beaten the Philadelphia Eagles they would now have a firm lead in the division. For now the Giants have a one game cushion on the Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles.

While the Giants have failed to prove that they are a playoff caliber team, they remain in the drivers seat for the NFC East crown. The Giants are 4-3. The Redskins and Eagles are 3-4. The Cowboys have lost four straight games without Tony Romo and Dez Bryant.

If the Giants can rattle off another winning streak of three or more games, they can give themselves a great lead in the NFC East. The Giants have two very winnable games ahead of them. Their next stop is against the New Orleans Saints in the Superdome, the pride of Louisiana. Sticking in the NFC South they then play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Giants will then have the biggest challenge of their season, when they host the New England Patriots. The Patriots are currently undefeated which brings back sentimental memories of 2007. If the Giants can win two of their next three, a doable task, they will be in a great position. The Patriots will most likely beat the Giants so the next two weeks are critical wins for Big Blue.

The Giants have been inconsistent this season. They lost two straight, then they won three straight. They played horribly then they played well. The inconsistency is the biggest worry for the Giants moving forward. You just don’t know if they will take advantage of their opportunities.

The Giants made a critical error by laying an egg in Philadelphia. The Eagles slipped up however against the Carolina Panthers to put the Giants back in first place. The Giants have a golden chance to stay in first place in the NFC East. This is a moment where the Giants cannot afford anything but a step in the right direction.
