The Eagles LB core is typically understood to be formidable year to year, and McGovern assuredly couples coaching capability with the divisional familiarity in replacing Jim Herrmann. It’s a potent combination of attributions introduced to the layer of New York’s defense regularly in shambles.
Considering one of the returning linebackers in 2016 is Mark Herzlich, he can advocate for McGovern’s defensive coordinator prowess after being coached by him at Boston College, also the source of the Carolina Panthers All-Pro Luke Kuechly. He’ll continue fulfilling his more focused role with the Giants and hopefully employs those college recruiting skills with Jasper Brinkley and top-flight free agency targets.
McGovern is additionally a New Jersey native and cut from the cloth of an award-developing football family. He appears to be a pure fit for McAdoo’s assemblage of characters without the studded Chip Kelly hoopla.
It’ll be one of the less discussed moves, especially after previous prospects of landing Mike Singletary, but McGovern’s hire will subtly pay dividends, though New York’s linebackers seriously can only get better.
