  • Yup, the Cardinals have been around since 1920, making them five years older than the Giants. The Redbirds have faced the Giants 126 times in the regular season and I’m 99% sure the two teams have never met in the playoffs, which is downright absurd.

The first head-to-head matchup between the two orgs came in November 1926 when the Frankford Yellow Jackets won the NFL title and the Cards called home Chicago. In 1960, the Cardinals moved to St. Louis, but joined the NFL East with the Giants, Pittsburgh Steelers, Redskins, Eagles, and Cleveland Browns.

One of the more memorable clashes came in Week 7 of the 1990 season when the Giants were down 19-10 to the Phoenix Cardinals at home with a little under six minutes left in the game. The Giants entered the game at 5-0 and were in jeopardy of losing their first game of the season. Phil Simms sprained his ankle on a sack early in the game and Jeff Hostetler led the late fourth quarter charge, throwing a long touchdown to Stephen Baker before spearheading the ensuing drive to get Matt Bahr into field goal range.

Another unforgettable finish came in Week 13 of the 1993 season when David Treadwell and Brad Daluiso kicked the G-Men past the Cardinals at Giants Stadium for a 19-17 win.

How can any Giants fan forget when Bill Gramatica injured his right knee celebrating a first quarter field goal in Week 14 of the 2001 season?

The most recent battle that sticks out in the minds of Giants fans was Week 4 of the 2011 season in Arizona when Big Blue was down 27-17 with a little over five minutes to go in regulation. The Giants got a short touchdown pass from Jake Ballard and a longer touchdown pass from Hakeem Nicks within a minute of each other to get the lead.

You might remember this game for what appeared to be a fumble by Victor Cruz that was ruled down, allowing the Giants to extend their drive. Nicks finished with 10 catches for 162 yards and Cruz had six grabs for 98.
