New York Giants: Five Reasons To Draft Deshaun Watson
5. Watson is an Exemplary Role Model Off the Field
The New York Giants have become accustomed to a certain standard in regards to the player’s off the field roles. Every player is expected to be active in the community and to be a positive influence on everyone they encounter.
If you followed the NFL awards at all this year, you’ll know that Eli Manning won the Walter Payton Man of the Year award. The award is given to the player with extraordinary volunteer and charity work.
It was an incredible honor to have a Giants player win this award, and Manning made all of Giants Nation proud.
After Manning is gone, who will be our annual Walter Payton Nominee? If drafted, Deshaun Watson would be the ideal candidate.
According to Matt Connolly of TheState.com, Watson is an active member of Habitat for Humanity. Connolly quotes Watson as saying:
"“I don’t do it for the popularity. I just do it out of the kindness of my heart and to be able to serve others, use my platform not just for me and my family, but to help others and inspire people to be able to do things so they can be able to fulfill their dreams and goals.”"
This is a great guy right here. In a league where it seems like someone is getting arrested or accused every other week, Watson is a refreshingly upstanding man. He is someone I would love to have represent the Giants one day.
