OBJ vs. Ramsey leads list of Week 1 matchups for New York Giants
By Henry Buggy
The New York Giants kick off the 2018 season against the Jacksonville Jaguars at MetLife Stadium this Sunday.
There’s no shortage of intriguing storylines entering Sunday’s matchup between Big Blue and the defending AFC South Champions. The New York Giants’ disastrous 2017 campaign is in the rearview mirror, and first-year head coach Pat Shurmur is looking to get the season off to a strong start.
The G-Men face one of the league’s best defenses in Week 1. The Jaguars are stacked with talent at all three levels of their defense and have a dominant ground game on the offensive side of the ball.
Of course, the top matchup everyone is looking forward to seeing at MetLife Stadium is Odell Beckham Jr. against Jalen Ramsey. The hype surrounding the two has been garnering headlines since July.
Beckham is coming off a season-ending ankle injury. He also just signed a contract extension that made him the league’s highest-paid wide receiver.
Like OBJ, Ramsey has quickly become one of the biggest names in the NFL. The 23-year-old earned first-team All-Pro honors last season while helping Jacksonville reach the AFC Championship Game.
Both are considered two of the best players at their respective positions and are sure to challenge each other on Sunday. Beckham has had his struggles with talkative corners in the past, Josh Norman, but he doesn’t plan to let Ramsey rattle him this weekend, via ESPN.
"“I think I learned my lesson. [Ramsey] is, if not the best, one of the best corners in the league. There is no way around it.”"
All eyes will surely be on Beckham and Ramsey in Week 1, but their matchup will not solely determine the winner of Sunday’s game. Football is the ultimate team sport. All 11 men have a job to do on each snap, however there are also obviously some key matchups that will play a bigger factor in the outcome.
Beckham against Ramsey leads the list, but there are plenty of other matchups both Giants and Jags fans will want to pay attention to.
