No. 5 – Patrick Omameh

The New York Giants signed Patrick Omameh to a three-year, $15 million contract with the hope that he would solidify one of Big Blue’s guard positions. After drafting Will Hernandez in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, it was clear Omameh would be starting at right guard for the Giants in Week 1.

The six-year veteran is off to a rough start with his new team, and so far, he looks like the weakest link on a shaky offensive line. The Giants released John Jerry, believing Omameh was the team’s best option at right guard.

It has yet to pay off. According to Pro Football Focus, Jerry was New York’s best offensive lineman last season, and Omameh’s contract is looking like another questionable offseason decision by Gettleman.

There’s still plenty of time for the former Jacksonville Jaguar to turn it around. It starts this week in Houston when he’s lined up across nose tackle D.J. Reader. The Giants offensive line has provided little running room for Barkley through two games and has been mauled in pass protection.

That needs to change this week.
