After Jabrill Peppers went down on Sunday with what looked like a serious ankle injury, results have been encouraging since and he may play on Sunday.
When NY Giants’ safety Jabrill Peppers went down writhing in pain on a field goal attempt in the first half (can someone please tell me why he’s out there on field-goal attempts?), it initially looked like this could be a potentially serious injury.
According to Jordan Raanan of ESPN, Monday’s test results were encouraging and Peppers will not need surgery.
This is terrific news for an already beat-up NY Giants team, as their mediocre (to be kind) secondary could ill-afford to lose Peppers for any amount of time.
Based off his initial prognosis of a minor low-ankle sprain, there’s a decent shot he suits up against the LA Rams on Sunday and they sure will need him as they are massive underdogs heading into the contest.
With rookie slot cornerback Darnay Holmes already struggling to make the transition to the nickel cornerback position in the NFL, the NY Giants’ defense would be even more hampered as they would no longer have the option to move Logan Ryan or Julian Love into the slot should the youngster continue to struggle.
Luckily, it doesn’t look like defensive coordinator Patrick Graham will have to shake up the secondary this week should Peppers be able to participate in practice this week.
NY Giants’ coach Joe Judge gives positive report on Peppers
Joe Judge confirmed that Jabrill Peppers had a decent shot to play this Sunday in his Zoom call with NY Giants’ reporters.
"“Jabrill, I don’t have a timetable on him for anything. We’re going to evaluate him day to day. We’ll see where he is. He had that lower leg. They’re going through a couple more things with the doctor this afternoon, but it looks like it could go either way at this point right here,” Judge said."
That’s about as much as you’re ever going to get out of Joe Judge when it comes to discussing a player’s injury, so all in all, I’d consider that a glowing review of Peppers’ injury status.
Obviously, the additional upcoming medical tests will either confirm the injury is minor or tell us that something more serious is going on, so we’ll have to wait for those final results.
But indications point towards Peppers having a solid shot of suiting up against the lethal LA Rams’ passing attacks.
