WR – Darius Slayton

Darius Slayton leads the Giants in receiving, but in recent weeks he has looked like anything but a true No. 1 wide receiver.

If last week’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals showed anything, it is that the Giants’ offense lacks high-end explosive playmakers.

Slayton might just be a complementary piece rather than the type of receiver you build a gameplan around. The Giants’ fifth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft has caught 42 of 75 targets for 629 yards and three touchdowns, but hasn’t consistently been able to take the cover off a defense.

Only twice this season has Slayton produced more than 100 receiving yards, and hasn’t reached that benchmark since Week 5 against the Dallas Cowboys. Slayton has caught just four passes for 45 yards the past three games.

Whether the Giants wind up making the postseason or not, this season has shown that prioritizing signing one of the premier wide receivers in free agency as well investing an early-round draft pick in a wide receiver are paramount both to hastening Jones’ development as well as elevating the Giants’ offense into a functional one.
