The NY Giants added another cornerback in an already deep secondary, UCF’s Aaron Robinson

Although NY Giants general manager Dave Gettleman didn’t go for the hat trick, and trade back in Round 3, the NY Giants added a quality player in UCF cornerback Aaron Robinson.

The Giants double-dipped on defense with Azeez Ojulari and Robinson on Night 2 of the 2021 NFL Draft. New York added a likely starter in Ojulari off the EDGE, and Robinson will compete for quality snaps.

The former UCF Knight had an interesting college career where he was a five-year NCAA player. He started at Alabama and left the Crimson Tide in 2017 to join UCF in the AAC.

Robinson will be reunited with former Alabama teammate Xavier McKinney where they both played together as freshmen. The two will look to bud a formidable duo for the future as two leaders in the NY Giants’ secondary.

Here is the Good, Bad, and the Grade on Aaron Robinson in Round 3.

Aaron Robinson: The Good

Robinson possesses a lot of important skills and intriguing qualities that he’ll bring into the NY Giants’ cornerbacks group.

Robinson possesses the ideal size at 6’1, 193 pounds to play both outside or as an oversized inside/slot cornerback. He backs up his play as a reigning two-time 2nd Team All-AAC in 2019 and 2020. He has played five years of college ball and is only 23 with still plenty of room to grow.

Robinson is a physical corner who loves to make aggressive plays on both the ball and the receiver at hand. Robinson racked up 15 pass deflections along with two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. He is a feisty tackler who has good technique, discipline, and a mean streak outside on the boundary in both the flats in pass coverage and steps up to stop runs near the line of scrimmage.

Robinson will provide more inside/outside flexibility to the Giants’ cornerbacks’ room. At 6’1, 190+ pounds, he instantly joins James Bradberry as the two biggest cornerbacks in the New York “No Fly Zone” secondary.
