NY Giants way-too-early 2022 NFL Draft need #2: Backup QB

Given the injury issues both Jones and Barkley have experienced–and given Jones’ lack of reaching the top tier of quarterback play as opposed to the former Pro-Bowl RB Barkley–having depth at both positions is already an appeasing option.

Jones is on the right track to becoming a postseason staple under center, but a third-year leap is crucial. If he doesn’t take that significant step, his removal won’t be as necessary as it was for Sam Darnold’s this past offseason…but he will need some competition.

The quarterback play has improved across all levels of the NCAA, with a particularly strong draft upcoming draft class at the position. With Mike Glennon more than likely making another pitstop in his journeyman path and Clayton Thorson being the only other option (if he isn’t just cut), the QB position could use another late-round check-in.
