3) Charlie Conerly

Years: 1948-1961

Legacy: NFL Champion (1956)

Wellington Mara once called Charlie Conerly the ‘best player who is not in the Pro Football Hall of Fame’ – he had a case then, and he has a case to this day.

Conerly embodied the NY Giants’ franchise in a way that few have – spending the entirety of his 14 year career with the franchise. He brought them back to glory – defeating the Chicago Bears in the 1956 NFL Championship Game.

He retired in after the 1961 season as the leader in almost all the franchise’s passing records. He endeared himself to Giants’ fans with his flashes of brilliance – consistently among the league’s best quarterbacks.
