Daniel Jones had a great day of practice during the NY Giants first day of fully padded practice.

All the pressure is on NY Giants quarterback Daniel Jones this season.

It’s a make or break year for him as the Giants still decide if he’s the franchise quarterback. He’s had times were he’s looked like an elite guy and he’s also looked like a complete disaster at other times. Everything he does is magnified especially the bad so it’s important to point out today’s strong day.

Jones showed out during the NY Giants red zone drills Tuesday. He completed three touchdown passes, and added a touchdown run. Jones didn’t have one incomplete pass during the drills. It’s good to see Jones playing well early especially against his own strong defense. It’s also important to see the production of Jones as a dual threat passer and runner.

In addition to strong play between the lines, Jones is showing he’s a leader on this team.

When a huge brawl broke out in practice Jones was in the middle of the scrum because he’s one of the guys and he’s a part of the team. You don’t want the franchise quarterback involved in things like this, but it’s a live and learn situation.

Jones escaped the pile without injury and showed something to his teammates. Head Coach Joe Judge was not happy with the situation.

Last season Jones had to learn a new offense as a second year player in a Covid year. This year for the first time in his career Jones will be led by the same coordinator in Jason Garrett.

Garrett wasn’t great in year 1 so the team hopes he can improve as well. He needs to be more aggressive. The NY Giants hope that Garrett and Jones are more comfortable together this season. New additions should help.

The NY Giants need a big year from Jones. From weeks 8-17 In 2020 Daniel Jones turned the ball over just once. Jones needs to keep that up in 2020. The Giants also need to cash in more in the red zone like they did in this padded practice. The NY Giants hope that Jones has a strong junior campaign and the additions of Kenny Golladay, Kadarius Toney and Kyle Rudolph along with Saquon Barkley’s return make the difference.

In his rookie season Jones found the end zone a lot he had 24 touchdown passes in 12 games. He however led the NFL in fumbles. In 2020 Jones cleaned up his game. He didn’t turn the ball over nearly as much but he just threw 11 touchdown passes. The NY Giants need Jones to keep the turnovers down while finding the end zone at a similar rate to his rookie year.
