NY Giants stock up, stock down after 12-7 preseason loss to Jets
Stock Up/Down: Corey Clement, RB
Not every player is the raw definition of consistency.
Corey Clement was the epitome of an up and down affair Saturday. Corey had an impressive first half with five carries for 32 yards. Corey displayed a nice blend of speed, toughness, agility, and a knack for breaking tackles. His running ability is superior to that of Devontae Booker’s whose free-agent contract gets more puzzling by the day.
Clement thrived on one drive in particular. He moved the Giants all the way up the field right to inside the Jets’ 5-yard line. It was an exciting string of plays that left a clear impression that Clement could take the #2 running back gig behind Saquon this year.
Not so fast!
Clement got popped on his next carry and he lost the football. The Jets recovered the fumble and took over from near their own goal line. Fumbling will never help any runner’s case to make the team. Fumbling at the opponent’s end zone could be a death sentence for some players.
Corey showed plenty of promise regardless of the fumble. He won’t be in the doghouse but he’ll want to be sure to hold onto the rock for dear life the next two games. Clement will still get plenty of opportunities in the coming weeks to prove himself and find a role on the NY Giants’ roster.
