NY Giants Lose to Patriots 22-20: 4 Instant Observations
The NY Giants’ Injuries are Piling Up
The NY Giants need to get healthy immediately. They are in desperate need of reinforcements on offense.
They have been without Kyle Rudolph, Saquon Barkley, Kenny Golladay, and Kadarius Toney for several weeks now. All four players have been out for nearly all of training camp this summer which took away valuable reps and chemistry development with Daniel Jones.
Heading into any preseason game, the goal is always to stay healthy. That’s truly the ‘winning team’, whoever comes out the healthiest. Just ask the Jets, Ravens, and Jaguars about that.
The Giants saw Darius Slayton and Evan Engram both get hurt and leave the game against the Patriots. Slayton left the game with foot and ankle injuries while Engram injured his calf. Both of their injury severities are unknown at this time and it remains to see what their status is for Week 1.
For Slayton, it’s much of the same as 2020. He fought through nagging ankle and foot injuries (coincidence?) all of last year that hindered his route-running, cutting ability, and top-end speed. It’s a concerning development for the Giants’ #3 receiver. He needs to get healthy immediately to perform for this offense in a critical role.
Engram’s injury is also a big concern. The Giants already lost Levine Toilolo for the season while Rudolph is still working back from foot surgery. Engram hurt his calf which could end up taking away some of his elite speed as a tight end.
The NY Giants’ offense is a mystery right now. Their projected starting group of weapons has barely practiced together. The good news is everyone hurt outside of tonight’s game is expected to play Week 1. The Giants need to gel as a unit and stay healthy to have a successful season.
