NY Giants offensive lineman, and captain, suffered a gruesome leg injury early in Thursday’s game against the Washington Football Team

Nick Gates was injured with 5:57 left in the first quarter of a division game against Washington Football team.

Daniel Jones dropped back to pass and threw an incomplete pass to Saquan Barkley in the flat, Gates had his leg rolled and remained down in obvious pain after the play.  Doctors rushed onto the field along with coaches as Gates leg was stabilized and he was loaded onto the cart to be taken off the field.

Several players approached Gates as he was rolled off the field.

The injury was so severe, that the NFL Network broadcast opted not to replay it.

Gates started 16 games for the Giants center last year and was arguably their best lineman over the course of the year. Named a captain this year, Gates has been the heart and soul of this offensive line.  His fiery play and intense leadership is something the Giants are going to miss if Gates misses a significant amount of time.

Billy Price had started for Price tonight at center, moving Gates back to his more natural position of guard.  The Giants have struggled with depth on the offensive line and attempted to address it with trades for Price and Ben Bredeson.  Brederson acquired from The Baltimore Ravens in exchange for a 2022 fourth round pick came in to replace Gates.

The Giants also signed Matt Skura from the practice squad before game time as they also have added Shane Lemieux to the IR.
