From Joe Judge down, plenty of blame for NY Giants’ inexcusable loss to Falcons

The Injury Bug bites NY Giants

I’m kind of cheating on this one, as there’s no one tangible to blame here since injuries are part of the game, but I do think it’s worth mentioning as a partial contributor to the struggles the Giants had moving the ball.

Losing wide receivers Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton was less than optimal, as both own the Giants’ only receiving touchdowns on the season. Additionally, Shepard quickly established himself as Jones’ go-to guy, while Slayton has been Jones’ favorite deep threat in the three years they’ve had together since being drafted in the same class.

Losing them hurts enough, but the ripple effect it had was just as damaging. Kenny Golladay, Evan Engram and Kadarius Toney as the Giants’ top options on the outside. Golladay has been steady, but it’s clear that his chemistry with Jones is still a work in progress. Engram has solidified himself as a liability at large and provided next to nothing for the offense. Toney showed some flashes on his two catches, but it’s evident that he’s still getting slowly integrated into the offense having missed a majority of the preseason.

Jones wound up completing 24 passes to nine different receivers, as Golladay led the way with 64 yards, and C.J. Board recorded the longest catch of the day at 38 yards, the only play for the Giants that went for 20+ yards.
