NY Giants running back Saquon Barkley suffered what appeared to be an ankle injury early in Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys

NY Giants running bacK Saquon Barkley was knocked from Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys, with what looked like an ankle injury in the first quarter.

Barkley’s toe seemed to get caught in the turf, before stepping on Cowboys defensive back Jourdan Lewis’ foot on a first down pass, with just under 6:00 remaining in the first quarter.

Immediately after limping to the sidelines, Barkley received attention from the NY Giants’ training staff.

Barkley was ultimately carted off the field, which is not an encouraging sign for the Giants‘ star running back. He was almost immediately ruled OUT for the remainder of the game, by the Giants.

This isn’t Barkley’s first ankle injury.

During the 2019 season, Barkley missed three weeks due to a high-ankle sprain, and was limited for much of the remainder of that season.

Entering Sunday’s game, Barkley seemed to be returning to his explosive and elusive form, just over a year out from a torn ACL that ended his season in Week 2 of the 2020 campaign.

Through four weeks, Barkley had rushed for 186 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while averaging 3.57 yards per carry.
