Another Saquon Barkley injury muddles his short and long-term future …

It’s becoming more difficult for Saquon Barkley to outrun the “injury prone” label, after suffering what appears to be a significant ankle injury in the first quarter of Sunday’s game.

Barkley missed 14-plus games last season after tearing his ACL Week 2 against the Chicago Bears, just over a year removed from suffering a high-ankle sprain in Week 3 of the 2019 campaign against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

This season, it was critical for Barkley to prove to the NY Giants that he not only could return to his dominant form following last year’s injury, but also be able to stay on the field, before the organization committed to him long-term by making him one of the NFL’s highest-paid running backs.

Obviously, after Sunday’s game, both Barkley’s availability for the next several weeks as well as what the long-term future for the star running back holds beyond the 2022 campaign remains uncertain.
