NY Giants Saquon Barkley ankle injury: Initial news best possible outcome
Initial reports suggest Saquon Barkley avoided a high-ankle sprain, after getting injured in Sunday’s NY Giants loss to the Dallas Cowboys
Saquon Barkley will undergo a battery of test to determine the severity of his injured ankle, following Sunday’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys, but the initial prognosis is the best possible for the Star running back and the NY Giants.
According to a report from Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Barkley suffered a “low ankle sprain,” and it is possible that he could miss as little as one week.
Barkley was knocked from Sunday’s 44-20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, when his toe seemed to get caught in the turf, before stepping on Cowboys defensive back Jourdan Lewis’ foot on a first down pass, with just under 6:00 remaining in the first quarter.
Sunday was the third ankle injury that Barkley has suffered in his career, dating back to his freshman year at Penn State, when he suffered a high-ankle sprain that kept him out for only the following two weeks. Then, in 2019, a high-ankle sprain in Week 3 sidelined Barkley for two weeks, but limited him for much of the remainder of the season.
If Barkley was able to avoid a high-ankle injury, it would likely accelerate his timeline to return. Given Barkley’s relentless work ethic and history of quick recoveries from ankle injuries, there could even be a chance he’s back on the field next Sunday against the Rams.
However, any prognosis likely hinges on the outcome of an MRI and other tests to determine the severity of Barkley’s injury.
