Leading up the draft, there was some speculation that the Giants would draft the heir apparent to Eli Manning, as the QB class appeared strong at the time, with Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Josh Allen, Josh Rosen and Lamar Jackson all projected to go in the 1st round.

Instead of drafting a QB in the first-round, Gettleman chose to take one out of Richmond in the 4th round. Obviously, no one expected Lauletta to have any kind of future with the Giants outside of simply being a backup, but even if he ended up sticking around, it’s an inexcusable pick regardless.

The NY Giants were bereft of talent, and the fourth-round is still somewhere teams find quality talent. This was a roster that ended the 2017 season 31st in points per game and 27th in points allowed. To use the 108th overall pick on a QB that was never going to succeed Manning is puzzling.

To make matters worse, Lauletta was 0-for-5 with an interception in his time with the Giants. He was waived the following preseason and has jumped between four practice squads since.

The pick here could’ve been almost anyone else, but one that sticks out to me is center Brian Allen (4.11), who became the starter for the Rams in his second season and remains the starter this season as part of a line that’s allowed the fewest sacks in the NFL.

Other potential picks: S Jordan Whitehead (4.17), S Kyzir White (4.19), DE John Franklin-Myers (4.34), RB Chase Edmonds (4.35)
