Several NY Giants veterans are set to be free agents this offseason, and could be on the cusp of signing big money contracts elsewhere

The NY Giants likely won’t be big players in free agency this offseason, especially due to limited cap space and the failures of last spring’s spending spree, but several players could cash in elsewhere.

Entering this offseason, even as the salary cap rises to $208 million, the Giants will have limited spending flexibility and will likely need to make some difficult decisions when it comes to moving on from several veteran players.

But, the NY Giants, who are expected to have approximately $3.74 million in cap space, have 20 players set to be free agents.

Here’s a look at three NY Giants players due to be free agents who could be set to cash in elsewhere this offseason:

EDGE Lorenzo Carter

For the most part, Lorenzo Carter’s season has been among the more disappointing in his career.

However, Carter’s performance against the Dallas Cowboys last Sunday was his most dominant in recent memory. Carter finished with 2.5 sacks, and four total tackles.

While Carter’s overall production has been rather limited in his fourth NFL season, producing only two sacks and 22 total pressures, a strong finish to the season and the fact that he plays a premium position could serve Carter well in free agency.

Teams consistently overpay for edge rushers, given their importance to a defense, and all it takes is one team to look at the 26-year-old to believe their scheme can maximize his potential.
