Sterling Shepard

An absolute fan favorite, Sterling Shepard, unfortunately, suffered a torn Achilles ending his season against the Cowboys, and perhaps his tenure with the NY Giants.

Drafted in the second round in 2016, Shepard, when healthy was a consistent contributor to the receiving corps. The initial feeling on Shepard was he would definitely have been a cap casualty for 2022; however, the Giants restructured his contract to move guaranteed money and spread it out over the final two years of the contract.

Adding to the confusion, now that Shepard is hurt he would be due injury protection if he is hurt into 2022.

With 2021 first-round pick Kadarius Toney seemingly drafted to take his place in the slot, the NY Giants have put themselves in an awkward position with someone who may not be able to help him on the field but hurt them financially.
