The NY Giants face an offseason of questions, with limited cap space to try to answer them ahead of the 2022 NFL season

The NY Giants are one of a few teams in the NFL with no concrete future.

New York faces uncertainties across the board, ranging from questions at the general manager spot to trying to fix a roster that looks great on paper, but far, far less impressive on the field.

The 2021 season was filled with potential for this Giants team. There were storylines upon storylines set up for this team; The return of Saquon Barkely, a potential year three jump for Daniel Jones, and a rebuilt receiving core just to name a few.

But instead of this team finding success, they were met with an unforeseen amount of obstacles. Long-term injuries, poor roster management, and isues within the coaching staff led to this season ultimately falling about. Instead of this team making the expected strides, they are arguably in a worse position than they were a year ago.

In the grand scheme of things, this season will be seen as nothing more than another lost year for this team. There are no distinct highlights of this year, and with two more games to go, it’s realistic to believe that nothing else will change.

As this season winds down, eyes have begun to shift to 2022. Next season could be drastically different for this team, or could be more of the same. There is a real chance for it to go either way. Decisions made right now will dictate the future of this team. And there are many reasons to be optimistic for the future of this unit, but there is also reason to worry.

Here are the NY Giants’ biggest reasons for optimism, and to worry in 2022:

Reason for worry: Front Office Instability and Roster Change

Decisions made in the front office will dictate for the future of this team.

The current dysfunction and instability within this front office could heavily impact this team in 2022 and there is clear cause for concern.

While there is belief that current GM Dave Gettelemen will be gone once this season is over, there is no guarantee that the next person to take that role will be able to fix the issues that are already here. This is where the worry begins.

And if this future GM is able to fix the issues of this team, they won’t come over one off-season. The problems of this team span across many different sections and it will take at least a few seasons to correct their current path.

This potential future GM will also be forced to try and reconstruct this roster. Decisions will have to be made regarding a plethora of high-profile players. Will Daniel Jones be brought back? Will Saquon Barkley be traded? How will the cap issue be fixed? These are just a few of questions that will have to be asked.

And there is also the future of head coach Joe Judge that is up in the air. There is current belief that both Judge and QB Daniel Jones will be back in 2022. But who’s to say that a new GM will agree with this decision? The lack of success up to this point could lead to a complete overhaul of both this team and roster. But there is no guarantee that 2022 will be any different for the Giants.
