The New York Giants requested to interview Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn for the team’s head coaching vacancy Wednesday
The New York Giants have requested to interview Dan Quinn for the team’s head coaching vacancy, league sources confirm to FanSided.
Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network was first to report the Giants requesting Quinn.
Quinn is the first candidate the New York Giants have requested, and he is one of the hotter commodities this hiring cycle, following the Cowboys’ loss to the San Francisco 49ers Sunday afternoon during the NFL Wild Card round.
In his first season in Dallas, the Cowboys’ defense improved markedly, finishing the 2021 campaign ranked 19th in total defense, but seventh in scoring defense, holding opponents to 21.1 points per game.
Quinn, 51, previously served as the Atlanta Falcons head coach from 2015 through 2020, leading Atlanta to a berth in Super Bowl LI. Unfortunately for Quinn and the Falcons, that game is remembered for Atlanta blowing a 28-3 lead and falling to Tom Brady, and Co. in overtime.
During his six seasons as a head coach, Quinn compiled a 43-42 record, and a 3-2 record in the postseason. He also won a Super Bowl ring as defensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLVIII.
The New York Giants have said the intention is to hire a general manager and allow that GM to hire the head coach. This week, the Giants hosted Buffalo Bills assistant general manager Joe Schoen, along with Chiefs executive Ryan Poles and San Francisco 49ers executive Adam Peters for second interviews in person.
