The New York Giants have hired former Buffalo Bills assistant general manager Joe Schoen as the organization’s next general manager
The New York Giants have made their decision, and Joe Schoen is their pick as the organization’s next general manager.
Following a search that landed on Schoen, Chiefs executive Ryan Poles, and 49ers executive Adam Peters, the Giants hit this hire out of the park, following a search that exclusively focused on successful outside candidates.
According to a Friday report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the New York Giants have informed the other three finalists for the job that they are out, and Schoen is in.
Schoen, 42, has been instrumental in working alongside general manager Brandon Beane, in building the Buffalo Bills into perennial contenders, playing this weekend for the franchise’s second consecutive trip to the AFC Championship Game.
Why Joe Schoen is a great hire as New York Giants general manager
Unlike in years past, the New York Giants landed on Schoen, who has no prior ties to the organization and will bring a fresh voice and philosophy to what has become an overdue rebuild after the Giants just capped their fifth consecutive double-digit loss season.
The task schoen inherits will be a daunting one, as the New York Giants are currently projected to be nearly $5.7 million over the cap this offseason. But, the NY Giants do own picks No. 5 and No. 7 in the upcoming NFL Draft, which should yield a pair of blue-chip prospects to begin building out the roster.
After hiring Schoen, the New York Giants will now turn their attention to hiring their next head coach. League sources tell FanSided that Brian Flores is likely high on Schoen’s list of candidates.
New York has already requested permission to interview Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn.
