Andrew Thomas is already one of the NFL’s premier offensive tackles, and will be key to the New York Giants’ success in the future
The New York Giants will aim to overhaul the offensive line this offseason, but already have a solid building block in place, in left tackle Andrew Thomas.
Thomas, who is coming off a dominant sophomore campaign in 2021, was listed as one of Pro Football Focus’ top 101 players in the NFL:
"Giants left tackle Andrew Thomas improved by leaps and bounds in Year 2 — so much so that the offensive line was noticeably worse when he was not in the lineup. The second-year offensive tackle allowed 18 pressures across 517 pass-blocking snaps in 13 games and even scored more receiving touchdowns than key receiver additions Kadarius Toney and Kenny Golladay."
Andrew Thomas’ strong season offers glimpse of bright New York Giants future
This was Thomas’ first appearance in the outlet’s rankings, checking in at No. 80 overall. Thomas was the No. 13 ranked tackle on the list, with Trent Williams topping the list of players in the No. 1 overall position.
Some wrote Thomas off as a bust, following a wildly inconsistent rookie campaign after being chosen No. 4 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft, but that judgement was obviously a mistake.
Last season, Thomas allowed only two sacks and 18 total quarterback pressures, while anchoring the New York Giants’ offensive line and appearing in 799 offensive snaps.
It remains to be seen who will be playing alongside Thomas, as new Giants general manager Joe Schoen aims to rebuild the offensive line, but if Thomas continues to build on his strong 2021 campaign, he has the chance to climb PFF’s rankings in future years.
