New York Giants restructure Adoree Jackson’s deal as Dave Gettleman failures continue to impact
New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen restructured cornerback Adoree’ Jackson’s contract, in a desperate move to create cap space Monday
The New York Giants restructured cornerback Adoree’ Jackson’s contract Monday, in a desperate move to create direly needed cap space.
According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the Giants converted $8.965 million of Jackson’s contract into a guaranteed signing bonus, and added a void year at the end of the deal, to create $5.98 million in cap space this season.
Monday’s move was the result of former general manager Dave Gettleman’s inability to manage the cap during his tenure.
Prior to reworking Jackson’s deal, the New York Giants had the worst salary cap positioning in the NFL, at roughly $738,607 in cap space, as of last week. With Daniel Jones on his rookie contract.
Gettleman’s successor, New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen, had spent free agency largely shopping on the margins to avoid pushing significant money into future years when the organization anticipated having more spending flexibility.
However, because of Gettleman’s missteps, moves such as reworking Jackson’s deal became necessary to get cap compliant as the NFL Draft nears.
The New York Giants signed Jackson, as part of last offseason’s misguided spending spree, and the veteran cornerback finished the 2021 campaign with 62 tackles, one interception, and eight pass b reakups in 13 games.
