The Kansas City Chiefs’ interest in trading for New York Giants Pro Bowl cornerback James Bradberry has reportedly cooled
If the New York Giants are aiming to trade Pro Bowl cornerback James Bradberry, the market might have just gotten more difficult.
That’s because the Kansas City Chiefs, who in recent weeks were reportedly interested in acquiring Bradberry, have backed off.
It would seem obvious, given the Giants‘ significant cap restrictions, that any team acquiring Bradberry would need to take on a significant portion of his remaining salary — or renegotiate his deal.
However, the immovability of Bradberry’s contract — and the fact that new New York Giants GM Joe Schoen has even been forced to consider trading one of the team’s most gifted players, underscores the damage done by former GM Dave Gettleman’s mismanagement of the cap.
Bradberry is a year removed from a Pro Bowl campaign, and finished last season with 47 tackles and intercepted four passes.
It would seem highly likely that any team trading for Bradberry would need to restructure his contract, or come to terms on an extension. Moving on from Bradberry would also create a significant void in the New York Giants’ secondary, but might be the price Schoen and the Giants must pay for Gettleman’s cap mismanagement.
