Round 4, Pick No. 112: Zyon McCollum, CB, Sam Houston State

Zyon McCollum is an absolute speed demon, having clocked a 4.33 40 time.

I snagged him in the fifth round of a prior mock draft after nearly taking him in the fourth, but it seems like more analysts are taking notice on McCollum and moving him up draft boards. I have no problem taking him here in the fourth, given his talents and attributes.

While you can coach many things, you can’t turn a 4.6 40 into a 4.3, and NFL receivers are getting faster and faster. Beyond that, McCollum is a surprisingly physical defender for being known for his speed. He’s also got a frame that allows him to gain some weight, and the ability to switch to safety if he can’t make it as a corner in the NFL.

He’s also a threat to take it the other way, with 13 interceptions and two returned for touchdowns during his college career.
