OU linebacker Brian Asamoah (24) knocks the ball away from Iowa State quarterback Brock Purdy (15) during the Sooners’ 28-21 win on Nov. 20 in Norman. Asamoah went 67th overall in this New York Giants mock draft. /

Round 3, Pick No. 67: Brian Asamoah, LB, Oklahoma

Sometimes good things fall into your lap.

I swear I wrote that last part on the previous slide before entering my pick and running the mock draft simulator ahead to pick number 67, but what do you know? Asamoah fell!

There’s no thinking to do here. But, a peak at the draft board also shows me Kerby Joseph lurking near the top of the board, and I want him too – more on that in a bit.

Asamoah has the tools to be a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, and he’s a good fundamental tackler. He’s got strong football IQ and leadership skills, and he’s capable of dropping into zone coverage. He’s not as strong as a pass rusher, but given that he’d be playing on the inside with Devin Lloyd, that wouldn’t be too big of an issue – three of the four linebackers in the scheme would be able to be sent after the quarterback when desired.

Plus, it’s always an area he could develop.

Now, back to the draft board. Before I enter my pick and fire this draft back up, let’s try to trade up from 76 to snag Joseph. The Texans pick 68th, they need basically everything, and they make plenty of boneheaded moves as an organization which makes them an ideal trading partner. This proved no exception.

TEXANS GET: 76th overall pick (3rd round), 196th overall pick (6th round)
GIANTS GET: 68th overall pick (3rd round)

We give up 221 points of value and receive 250 points of value. Another draft trade win!
