Kadarius Toney should really be at NY Giants voluntary minicamp
I know, I know. To many football fans, a second-year wide receiver missing the voluntary minicamp of a team is no big deal in mid-April. Trust me, I completely get that side of the argument but to many other football fans and especially players, it’s super important to start early to get ahead. Even wide receiver Kenny Golladay shares the same sentiment that everyone on the roster should be at the voluntary minicamp of the NY Giants at this point in time.
Wide receiver Kadarius Toney, for whatever reason, has opted not to attend Big Blue’s voluntary minicamp and at the end of the day, many wish he did show up. It’s no secret that last year, in Toney’s rookie season, he left much to the imagination.
Besides only starting in four games for the Giants, he only totaled 420 receiving yards, 39 receptions, and failed to score a single touchdown. While Toney did deal with health issues, mostly a nagging shoulder injury, he didn’t do much of anything last season that lived up to the hype of being a first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Kadarius Toney is missing out on a headstart in NY Giants voluntary minicamp
Needless to say, there is still much to learn for Toney as he gets used to life in the NFL. It’s just weird he’s been radio silent and well, not a good look to miss your team’s voluntary minicamp when there is a new general manager and head coach in town. There are also a few new faces to work with as it’s a missed opportunity for Toney to get a headstart on what should be an interesting new era for the Giants.
In the grand scheme of things, Toney should really have been at this voluntary minicamp if anything to make up for lost time last season. Even though there wouldn’t be any real learning of offensive plays, schemes, or things to specifically work on at this point in time, it would have only helped him improve as a football player to be there now with his teammates also in attendance.
The offseason is a long one and every opportunity to get better should be taken, especially for a young player like Toney who has much to prove if he’s the real deal and ready to thrive in the big apple. So far, he hasn’t shown he’s capable of being a premier No. 1 receiving threat but time is ticking and patience continues to run thin by Giants fans and the leadership regime to finally field a competitive football team.
Hopefully, when mandatory camp comes along later this summer, Toney is ready to go and deliver on the task at hand. Otherwise, missing out on important things such as voluntary minicamp in April could come back to haunt him if he continues to struggle to get the job done.
