NY Giants Players To Avoid: OT Trevor Penning, Northern Iowa

While a lot of things would have to happen for the Giants to even consider drafting Trevor Penning. He is still a player I want to avoid for a couple of reasons. For starters, while he has an absolutely massive frame, (6’7, 325 pounds) his lack of speed and, at times, technique, can be worrisome.

While this is not consistent, there are moments where his footwork looks slow and rather clunky. This is something that could cause him to get beat off the edge frequently in the pros if he does not clean it up.

In addition to this, while he has shown that he can be successful against higher competition, Penning plays in the FCS, a lower division of D-1 college football. Which is something to note when looking at his ridiculous PFF run-blocking grade of 99.9.

As I previously mentioned, however, a lot of things would have to happen for the Giants to be in consideration for drafting Trevor Penning. The biggest thing is that the top 3 tackles in the draft class, Evan Neal, Ikem Ekwonu, and Charles Cross, would all have to be off the board.

This is very unlikely. I believe that Trevor Penning may be worth drafting later in the first round. However, there is no way the Giants should consider drafting him over any of the other 3 offensive tackles I listed.
