NY Giants Day 2 Target: 2. Wide Receiver

Many had speculated whether the Giants would use one of their top ten picks on a wide receiver. There were certainly more important needs at the top of the draft and ultimately the value was not there for the Giants and Joe Schoen.

On Day 2, however, this is certainly a different story. The Giant’s current depth chart at the position has Kenny Golladay, Kadarius Toney, and Sterling Sheppard as the starting receivers, with Darius Slayton fourth in line.

Unfortunately, all four of these players had disappointing 2021 seasons. A combination of injuries, off-the-field issues, and an overall poor offense in New York resulted in three combined touchdowns between the four players. This included a combined 0 touchdowns between 2021 free-agent acquisition Golladay and 2021 first-round pick Toney.

This draft class has been labeled as being deep at the position, with talented receivers being available on all three days of the event. For Schoen and the Giants on Day 2, there are a number of receivers who would instantly upgrade this offense, in what is an incredibly important year for fourth-year Daniel Jones.

There are still some borderline first-round talents such as George Pickens, Skyy Moore, and Christian Watson available for the Giants with pick 36. Even if they want to wait for round three, they could see talent such as John Metchie III, Kyle Phillips, and Calvin Austin III available, all of whom would make an impact from their first season in New York.
