As the NY Giants do their best to bounce back this upcoming season, it’s all about drafting players that are ready to make an impact. Such is the case with new linebacker Darrian Beavers who was known as a human tackling machine throughout his collegiate career.

Once the Giants made it official in Round 6 of the 2022 NFL Draft, Beavers easily fits the mold of a smart linebacker who is all about productivity against anyone holding a football. He’s made a name for himself as being a heavy-hitting linebacker that uses his sheer speed to be a difference-maker.

Beavers excels with blitzing opposing quarterbacks and his stats tell the tale of a linebacker that wants to work on being the best. At Connecticut and Cincinnati, Beavers totaled 230 tackles, 13.5 sacks, three interceptions, three forced fumbles, and five passes defended.

In the grand scheme of things, Beavers is all about focusing on quarterbacks and making disruptive plays as much as he can. While he isn’t great when it comes to his man-to-man skills, that’s something that can be worked on through proper coaching, mentoring, and the veteran presence he’ll be around in the Giants’ lockerroom.

New general manager Joe Schoen has had a rather interesting draft in his first year on the job, to say the least. Obviously, the football world won’t know how any of these draft picks will pan out but with Beavers, there is hope he can be developed into a good linebacker over the next few years.

The kind of linebacker that can specifically be used in blitzing situations and as quality depth to give breathers to the starters above him. All in all, this looks like a good selection considering everything Beavers brings to the table.

All it takes is one opportunity to make it and for a player like Beavers who is all about hard work, preparation, and standing out when he’s on the gridiron, this is the kind of player the Giants needed to draft for their defense. It’s all about creating a new identity on defense and well, Beavers will undoubtedly be a part of that if everything falls into place.
