NY Giants signing Kevin King would make total sense
With OTAs underway for the NY Giants, the buzz around the building is incredibly high. However, there are still some moves that need to be made by general manager Joe Schoen to put this team in the best position to compete in 2022. More specifically, it’s the defense that could use some help heading into Week 1.
Over the last month, it became a forgone conclusion stud cornerback James Bradberry would either get released or traded. Just recently, Schoen cut the talented defensive back, but he’s yet to bring in a new body to help add depth/competition at the position. There are several veteran free agents still available, with one in particular standing out to us: Kevin King.

In 2017, Green Bay used a second-round pick on King. A speedster out of the University of Washington, King arrived to Lambeau Field with high expectations. During his rookie season, he went on to start five games and record 28 tackles. He had a bit of an up-and-down stint with the Packers, but no one has forgotten about his impressive 2019.
That season, King started 14 games for Green Bay and posted a career-high five interceptions and 66 tackles. Things dropped for King over the past two campaigns, as he’s only totaled one interception since that big 2019. Regardless of that, King is still only 27 years old and has plenty of solid football left ahead of him.
With it being so late in the free agency process too, Schoen wouldn’t have to break the bank to go out and sign him either. For New York, the depth at cornerback isn’t great. The Giants could bring in King to compete for a starting spot, but even if he doesn’t win the job, he could provide them with valuable snaps from start to finish in 2022.

Right now, Adoree’ Jackson has one of the cornerback spots locked in. As for CB2, Aaron Robinson is the favorite leading up to camp to win the job, but he’s got Rodarius Williams and Jarren Williams behind him looking to make noise. Again, King could arrive to East Rutherford and push the guys already in town for a job. Schoen said he’s looking to potentially ink a CB to replace Bradberry. From our chair, King would be a strong fit. We’ll see if anything goes down.
