In what’s been an incredibly busy offseason for NY Giants general manager Joe Schoen, he’s not even close to being done making some difficult decisions leading up to the season-opener. With plenty of movement coming for the roster, could Schoen end up releasing more players following parting ways with cornerback James Bradberry?

That most definitely could go down soon and Bleacher Report’s Maurice Moton has listed one player in particular who the team could say goodbye to this summer: wide receiver Darius Slayton. Earlier this year, trade rumors surrounded the speedster and things are still up in the air about his future with the squad. Could Schoen end up cutting him?

Could the NY Giants cut or trade Darius Slayton?

"“With a good start to his career, Slayton will likely remain with the Giants or draw enough interest for a transaction,” Moton wrote. “However, clubs may take a conservative approach in trade discussions because he’s in the final year of his contract and they might be willing to wait for him to hit free agency next offseason.“If New York lets Slayton go, the Baltimore Ravens should make an aggressive offer for him.”"

Slayton indeed was at the center of trade rumors leading up to the NFL Draft and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him moved here in the near future. However, Moton makes a great point in that teams may just wait to see what happens with Slayton after this season, rather than sending the Giants a draft pick for his services.

If New York were to trade him, Schoen and Co. would certainly love a defensive back in return. The cornerback depth for the Giants isn’t strong with Bradberry now out of East Rutherford and suiting up for the Philadelphia Eagles.

There’s still plenty of time left leading up to Week 1 for Schoen to get creative and make something happen with Slayton. While there’s a good chance he stays put and makes plays for signal-caller Daniel Jones this campaign, Moton sure makes it seem like the door is open for Slayton to either be dealt or released. This will be something to monitor over the next few weeks.
