PFF doesn’t have much belief in NY Giants offensive line this season
There’s been a complete overhaul for the NY Giants and their offensive line, as new general manager Joe Schoen worked overtime this offseason to mix things up. The Giants will feature virtually a totally different unit this fall, as the team brought in Jon Feliciano and Mark Glowinski during free agency, while they also drafted offensive tackle Evan Neal No. 7 overall.
With left tackle Andrew Thomas poised for another strong season too, things are definitely heading in the right direction for this unit. The team over at Pro Football Focus doesn’t seem to agree, though, as they’ve labeled them as a ‘Tier 4’ group as things stand with ‘one good tackle.’ Overall, PFF has them ranked No. 18 in the league.
The NY Giants offensive line should be much improved this year
"“That one good tackle is former fourth overall pick Andrew Thomas, although Evan Neal is a promising rookie,” PFF wrote. “Thomas’ abysmal rookie season is still ingrained in a lot of minds, but many missed him become one of the best pass-protecting tackles in the league last year. He allowed only 18 pressures on 517 pass-blocking snaps after giving up 57 as a rookie.”"
Don’t forget that the Giants also drafted North Carolina guard Joshua Ezeudu in the third round, with the youngster expected to push for significant playing time as well. While no one is saying that New York is going to be one of the best offensive lines in the NFL this upcoming season, they’re more than just a group that should be known for having one good tackle.
After how poorly the Giants played last season, going 4-13, it’s easy to understand why so many people think that this team is going to struggle again in 2022. Everyone knows the O-line was a major reason why NY finished at the bottom of the NFC East standings, as they barely gave quarterback Daniel Jones times to stay in the pocket. The holes for Saquon Barkley? Those were non existent.
In order for the Giants to have an inspiring season under new head coach Brian Daboll, they’ll need to clean up loads of areas. Obviously, this includes the offensive line, but there sure seems like there’s a lot of promise there. With that said, the latest update from PFF is only going to give the big guys up front even more reason to put on a show once early September rolls around.
