There continues to be plenty of trade speculation surrounding the NY Giants. With training camp about a month away, the talks of potential deals are only going to grow louder. While wide receiver Darius Slayton has been mentioned as a possible player who could be sent out of town, do fans need to worry about a different speedster?

In an article for Bleacher Report, Ian Wharton came up with one trade each NFL team should offer before camp does arrive. In surprising fashion, he mentioned the Chicago Bears and the NY Giants getting together for a move for Kenny Golladay. In exchange for the wideout, the G-Men would get a 2023 sixth-round pick. Would this actually be something general manager Joe Schoen entertains?

NY Giants trading WR Kenny Golladay would be a big mistake

"“The New York Giants’ star free-agent signing from the 2021 offseason struggled mightily in his first season with the franchise,” Wharton wrote on Golladay. “The offense was ravaged by injuries, and Golladay’s effort level was questionable. A new regime might buy Golladay another year in the Big Apple, but the Giants should pounce if given the chance to shed his massive $21.15 million cap hit. Because of the way Golladay’s contract is structured, New York will save $17.75 million in cap space if they deal him. Chicago would assume just $13 million in salary in 2022. They could cut him after the season and incur a modest $3.4 million dead-cap hit from 2023 through 2025 if he simply doesn’t work out.”"

Golladay was a splash signing by the Giants last offseason, but he simply didn’t live up to the hype in Year 1 with the team. Golladay was given a four-year, $72 million deal, but he ended up posting 37 receptions for 521 yards and no touchdowns in 2021. People expected him to have a huge year, but the opposite was the case.

Golladay does have a monster cap hit for next season, as Wharton mentioned, so it could be enticing to potentially trade him. However, do the G-Men really want to give up on him and his potential so quickly? In order for Daniel Jones to have a bounce-back year and save his job for the future, he needs all of his weapons to play well in 2022.

This of course includes Golladay. Big things are expected for this offense now that head coach Brian Daboll has been hired and Mike Kafka has taken over as offensive coordinator. The offensive unit as a whole figures to be way more explosive and the expectation is that Golladay will be able to put up some impressive stats. Fans want to see him ball out for New York and there’s no way they want to see him sent to Chicago to catch balls from Justin Fields.
