The NY Giants have a very young defense, but they have the potential to make an impact and have great success. Cornerback is a position that New York could certainly improve on, and there is a very reliable veteran cornerback still available. Former Pittsburgh Steeler, Joe Haden, is reportedly weighing his options in free agency per Sam Robinson of Pro Football Rumors.

The G-Men should certainly pursue the 33-year-old corner, as he would be a great veteran presence on this young defense. Haden’s last two contracts were for only three years, and then two years. With that being said, it would be very wise for Joe Schoen and the Giants to try and land the two-time Pro-Bowler on a short-term deal.

The Giants are in need of a veteran corner

Not only would Haden just provide a veteran presence in the locker room, but he could also help this defense find success. They have a talented young defense, just they are lacking depth at the cornerback position.

Currently, New York doesn’t have a single proven cornerback on their roster. Adoree’ Jackson is expected to do big things, but Haden would immediately jump in as the veteran leader of the group. The secondary is already dangerous, as it features 22-year-old safety Xavier McKinney.

On top of the young safety, the defense also includes Dexter Lawrence and Leonard Williams, and New York’s top draft pick in the most recent draft, pass-rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux. Thibodeaux has provided fans with loads of excitement leading up to Week 1.

Joe Haden’s veteran presence would be a huge plus

Adding Joe Haden, who has 12 seasons under his belt, along with three postseason appearances, would help this defense significantly.

This team found itself in close games numerous times last season, despite their overall record. Having a reliable cornerback like Haden would do wonders for this Giants defense.

Haden will be entering his 13th NFL season. He possesses a very high football IQ, which will also help those younger players as well. His ability to read the quarterback, along with understanding route combinations and tendencies would have a huge impact.

The 12-year veteran has also been known to be a leader in the locker room, often taking a mentorship role as well for the younger players. New York should certainly contact Haden, as he could help this young Giants defense take the next step.
