Tae Crowder calls for NY Giants to trade for unhappy Bears LB Roquan Smith
So you’re saying there’s a chance? On Tuesday, news broke that star linebacker Roquan Smith is unhappy with his situation with the Chicago Bears, with him announcing to the fanbase that he has requested a trade out of town. With Smith hoping to join a new team, could a move to East Rutherford be in the cards?
That might be tricky, but NY Giants linebacker Tae Crowder has made his feelings known on Twitter: he wants Smith to suit up with him on Sundays. Following the breaking update on Smith, Crowder indeed wasted no time heading to social media to tell the Giants front office to make something happen to land Smith.
NY Giants LB Tae Crowder wants the team to trade for Roquan Smith
Smith was a first-round pick by the Bears in 2018, and he’s currently playing on his fifth-year option. However, Smith, a Second Team All Pro ‘backer, made it more than clear than contract talks with the Chicago front office haven’t gone well and he doesn’t feel valued by the squad. This has been a tough pill to swallow for the Chicago faithful, but Smith doesn’t want to keep playing for the Bears.
Things would surely be tricky for New York to land him, as the cap space really isn’t there to bring in the talented LB, especially with fans still eyeing a signing at cornerback. However, general manager Joe Schoen could get creative and he could most definitely include wide receiver Darius Slayton in a potential package. Chicago is in desperate need of a talented wideout, and Slayton has been mentioned as a possible trade target for the Bears several times before.
What if the G-Men were to send Slayton and a third-round pick for Smith? You never know, that could be enough for Chicago to bite. Would New York be willing to offer that up? That remains to be seen, but it’s most definitely intriguing to think about. The Giants fanbase would obviously welcome Smith with open arms. He’s a true talent.
With NY ready to take a big step forward in 2022, bringing in a player of Smith’s caliber would send quite the statement to the rest of the NFC East. Again, this feels like a long shot, but if Schoen wants to make a splash ahead of Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans, making Crowder happy and bringing in Smith to don blue would be quite the move.
