Come on, can’t we just enjoy the bounce-back season NY Giants running back Saquon Barkley is having in peace? No. 26 has regained his swag, breaking off big runs like it’s 2018 again. It’s been fantastic to see and Big Blue nation is loving every minute of it. Could the good times end up coming to a close sooner than expected, though?
If you ask Boomer Esiason, it wouldn’t surprise him at all if Barkley is sent to a new team before the trade deadline comes and goes. Not only that, Esiason thinks Barkley heading to the Buffalo Bills makes sense, especially if the AFC East powerhouse puts a second or third-round pick on the table. Great, now this is something Giants fans are going to have to keep in mind moving forward.

NY Giants RB Saquon Barkley being traded would devastate the fanbase
After recovering from his torn ACL, Barkley looked look like he lost a step last season. That hasn’t been the case through the first three games of the new campaign. Barkley has broken free for several big runs, including his 36-yard touchdown scamper against the Dallas Cowboys during Monday Night Football.
With Barkley, it’s important to remember that he’s in the final year of his deal. Are the Giants going to present him with a monster contract next offseason to keep him in town? That doesn’t feel likely, which is why Esiason thinks a trade could go down. He’d make a ton of sense for the Bills.
Buffalo is in Super Bowl mode and adding a player of Barkley’s caliber could help the offense finally get over the top going up against the Kansas City Chiefs should the two teams meet in the postseason for the third consecutive year. You already know Bills Mafia would welcome Barkley with open arms.
The Giants are in their rebuild and Joe Schoen is looking to make the best decisions to help this team get into a winning mode sooner than later. If the right offer comes in on Barkley, it could be hard for Schoen to turn something down.
A second-round pick would be enticing. We’d hate to see Barkley leave town, however, especially to join the Bills. Hopefully Esiason’s gut is wrong on this one.
