Wan’Dale Robinson must become a key piece of the NY Giants offense

You know what, the New York Giants may have something special in rookie wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson.

The 2022 second-round pick, while used sparingly, played a big role in the team’s Week 6 win over the Baltimore Ravens. Robinson finished the day with three receptions for 37 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown. How about that for a return from injury?

In a Giants wide receiver room that has been in desperate need of help, it looks as though Robinson can help fill that role. But, that will depend on how offensive coordinator Mike Kafka chooses to utilize the rookie pass-catcher.

In the six games that Kafka has been calling plays for the Giants, the offense has expanded in a big way. Running back Saquon Barkley is currently leading the NFL in yards from scrimmage. The offense is averaging 21.2 points per game, which is a drastic improvement from their performance last season.

At the center of this unit’s success is Kafka. Now, with the return of Robinson to the lineup, he will need to find a way to utilize the gadget player.

During his time in college, Robinson was used heavily in both the run and pass game. Over three seasons and 31 total games, he recorded 2,939 yards from scrimmage and 14 total touchdowns. In the receiving game, he hauled in 195 receptions for 2,248 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. On the ground, he recorded 141 carries, resulting in 691 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

When the Giants drafted Robinson, they knew what ways he could impact the offense. With the ways that he was utilized in college, Kafka knows what he is capable of. While his season has been impacted by injuries, the Giants could have big plans for him as time progresses.

If the three can ever manage to be on the field together, the trio of Barkley, Robinson, and Kadarius Toney could wreak havoc on opposing defenses. Kafka has already implemented the wildcat into his playcalling. Finding a way to have all three players in the backfield could add a whole other layer to this unit. It could also allow for the play calling to evolve even more.

If the pass catchers on this team continue to struggle to return to the field, Robinson could become a go-to option for Jones. Regardless of where he falls on the depth chart, he has made it clear why he should become a key piece of this Giants offense.
