Does NY Giants general manager Joe Schoen have something else cookin’ before Tuesday’s trade deadline arrives? Plenty of Big Blue supporters are hoping that’s the case, as Kadarius Toney is now with the Kansas City Chiefs and the NY offense needs a speedster to help things out for quarterback Daniel Jones.

A name to keep an eye on over the next few days is Houston Texans wideout Brandin Cooks. The veteran WR could be on his way out of Houston, as teams are showing interest in trying to acquire him. According to The Score’s Jordan Schultz, the G-Men, Vikings, Rams and Packers are all eyeing the 5-10, 185-pounder.

NY Giants trading for Brandin Cooks could be tricky for Joe Schoen

While adding Cooks to the offensive mix for the Giants would help this squad out, there’s a couple of reasons a deal might not work. For starters, the Texans could want a pair of draft picks in exchange for him, and we know just how much Schoen values those to help build towards the future.

Also, Cooks is set to make $18 million next season in fully guaranteed dollars. Would the Giants, Packers, Rams or Vikings want to add that kind of money to the books? That’s a steep contract, no doubt about that.

Having said that, there’s no denying that Cooks is an exciting talent. He has six 1,000-yard seasons to his name. His wheels are impressive and he’d most certainly open up the field for a new team, should he indeed get dealt before Tuesday comes and goes.

Thus far this campaign, Cooks has hauled in 28 balls for 281 yards and a touchdown. He’s in his third season with the Texans, but his time with the AFC South side could be coming to an end soon. The Giants will be a squad to watch in the race to land Cooks. It’d be quite a splash from Schoen, especially if he doesn’t have to give up too much to get it done.
