This team can’t even stay healthy when they’re away from the field. Things were bad enough for the NY Giants entering the bye week, as they suffered a 27-13 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 8. With the team off for Week 9, it was time for the group to rest up and get ready to bounce back vs. the Houston Texans. The G-Men will have to do so without star safety Xavier McKinney.
On Monday morning, the defensive back announced on Twitter that he took a trip to Mexico and went on a guided tour on an ATV. He suffered a freak accident, resulting in a hand injury. Now, the DB will be out of action for the next few weeks. This is brutal news for head man Brian Daboll and defensive coordinator Wink Martindale.
NY Giants safety Xavier McKinney injuring his hand on an ATV in Mexico is a big blow
Mckinney is the defensive play-caller for this squad and a team captain. The fact that he was riding an ATV in the middle of the campaign is something that Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen can’t be too happy about. He’s a leader for the entire D, yet he decided to put himself in a dangerous situation with his joy ride.
Fans are calling McKinney out on social media and rightfully so. He should have never put himself in this kind of position in the first place. Alas, nothing can be done about things now and McKinney will have to work his tail off in his rehab to try and get back on the field as soon as possible.
An exact timeframe hasn’t been revealed yet, but we know for sure that McKinney won’t be able to play this Sunday against Houston at MetLife Stadium. Following the Week 10 tilt with the Texans, the Giants will then take on the Lions in Week 11 and meet the Cowboys on Thanksgiving in Week 12.
With that contest coming on a Thursday, McKinney may not be ready to suit up in time for the big-time rivalry showdown. He’ll surely be missed trying to make plays against Dak Prescott and Co. if that happens to be the case.
4 negatives for the NY Giants to overcome following the bye week
The Giants are remarkably 6-2 this season, but they have quite a few flaws and unsustainable trends they must fix in order to keep stacking the Ws in 2022
