No one will ever be able to question the toughness of NY Giants tight end Daniel Bellinger. The rookie fourth-round pick went down against the Jacksonville Jaguars, suffering a fractured eye socket. Holy smokes, it was tough to see him down on the field in so much pain. His jersey was covered in blood as he was carted off.
Bellinger will be out for a little while, but the good news is that he told the media on Tuesday that he continues to make improvements with his recovery. There was some worry shortly after his injury that we wouldn’t see him in pads until 2023, but that won’t be the case.
For the TE, he’s still fighting his way back and he’s surely a bit shaken up about the incident. He went in full detail about what was going on through his mind while he was in an insane amount of pain. Bellinger didn’t hold back in saying the incident as a whole was frightening.
NY Giants TE Daniel Bellinger will be back at some point this season
"“Incredibly scary,” Bellinger said of his injury. “When it first happened, it kept getting really puffy and it was kind of numb around the eye, so I was afraid that it was the actual eye. I was afraid at first, but once I got to the hospital and the doctor looked at the eye and said the actual eye was okay, I calmed down a little bit.”"
Before going down against Jacksonville, Bellinger was third on the team with his 16 receptions. Everyone saw against the Seahawks just how much the offense and quarterback Daniel Jones missed him out on the field. Bellinger has become a reliable option for Danny Dimes and he’ll be needed back ASAP.
With that in mind, the talented youngster won’t be rushed back either. The fact that Bellinger will be able to get himself back in uniform this campaign should be a major win for head coach Brian Daboll and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka.
This kid is tough as nails. NY supporters surely can’t wait to see him back in action, especially should the G-Men go on to make the playoffs.
